No rise in mastectomy rates with greater use of breast MRI

NEW YORK (Reuters Health), Apr 28 - Contrary to what some researchers have shown, increasing use of MRI in evaluating invasive breast cancer does not necessarily raise mastectomy rates, according to study findings presented Friday at the 10th annual meeting of the American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBS) in San Diego.

MRI, MDCT err in estimating cardiac functional

MRI and MDCT assessments of left ventricular functional parameters were inaccurate when evaluated on a moving heart phantom with known parameters, according to research published in the March issue of European Radiology. CT, particularly dual-source CT, did outperform MRI, however.

MRIs may damage cochlear implants

NEW YORK (Reuters Health), Dec 30 - Tests show that certain MRI machines may demagnetize magnets used in cochlear implants to couple external and implanted components, according to a report in the December issue of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery.
